How to scan a QR code online — four ways
This free QR code scanner reads a QR code from whatever you have handy, right in your browser:
- Camera — on a phone or laptop, point the camera at a QR code and it decodes instantly. On supported browsers it also reads common barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128).
- Image — upload a photo or screenshot that contains a QR code. The original file’s date is preserved in your history.
- Paste — copy a QR image from anywhere and paste it in with Ctrl/⌘ + V.
- URL — paste the web address of a QR image and we’ll fetch and decode it.
Is it private?
Yes. Decoding happens locally in your browser, and your scan history is stored only in this browser. WestNet does not receive the codes you scan. When you decode from a URL, only that image address is sent to our server so we can fetch the picture for you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I scan a QR code from an image or screenshot?
Open the Image tab, choose the picture (or drag it in), and the QR code is decoded automatically. A screenshot of a QR code works perfectly. The original file’s date is saved in your history.
Can I scan a QR code with my computer’s webcam or phone camera?
Yes. On the Camera tab, allow camera access and point it at the code — it reads it live. On phones it uses the rear camera by default.
Does this read barcodes too?
On browsers that support the built-in barcode detector (most Android Chrome and Chromium browsers) it also reads common 1D barcodes such as EAN-13, UPC and Code 128. Everywhere else it reliably reads QR codes.
Do you store the codes I scan?
Your scan history is kept only in your own browser (local storage) and is never uploaded. Decoding happens on your device. The one exception is the URL tab, where the image address is sent to our server so we can fetch the picture for you.
What is a Wi-Fi QR code?
A Wi-Fi QR code stores a network name and password so a phone can join with one tap. When you scan one here, we show the network name, security type and password, with a button to copy the password.
